Fiqh learning requires students not only to remember legal provisions but also to understand relationships among concepts, categories, conditions, pillars, procedures, and legal consequences. This article critically examines the pedagogical potential of mind mapping for strengthening students’ conceptual understanding in Fiqh learning. The study employs a critical literature review with Aprillia Dwi Setya Diningrum’s undergraduate thesis on Grade VI students at MI Nur Rohman Sidoarjo as the primary document and recent empirical studies on mind mapping and Fiqh learning as supporting literature. Data were analyzed through content identification, categorization, comparison, and interpretive synthesis. The review identifies four interconnected mechanisms. First, mind mapping externalizes the conceptual structure of Fiqh by transforming linear information into visible relationships among key concepts. Second, student-generated maps require selection, categorization, hierarchy construction, and relational thinking, making mind mapping a cognitive activity rather than merely a visual medium. Third, visual-verbal representation supports recall and facilitates the reconstruction of complex material. Fourth, the effectiveness of mind mapping depends on pedagogical scaffolding; students may produce aesthetically attractive maps without adequate conceptual accuracy when teachers emphasize form over reasoning. The article therefore argues that the contribution of mind mapping to Fiqh learning should not be reduced to colorful presentation or memorization. Its stronger pedagogical value lies in functioning as a conceptual organizer that helps learners move from fragmented information toward relational understanding. A Conceptual Mapping Cycle for Fiqh Learning is proposed, consisting of concept identification, classification, relational mapping, explanation, verification, and revision. The review also limits causal claims because the primary study does not by itself establish universal effectiveness. Implications are offered for designing mind mapping tasks that prioritize conceptual correctness, student explanation, and formative feedback.
