Editorial & Peer Review Policies

 

Publication Frequency

Literasi: Jurnal Madrasah dan Pesantren is published four times a year, in January, April, July, and October.

Manuscripts that have successfully completed the editorial and peer-review processes will be scheduled for publication in an appropriate issue based on the journal's publication schedule and editorial decision.

Peer Review Policy

All manuscripts undergo an initial editorial screening before being considered for external peer review. Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are evaluated through a double-blind peer review process, in which the identities of both authors and reviewers are concealed.

Each manuscript is normally evaluated by at least two independent reviewers with relevant expertise.

Reviewers assess manuscripts based on:

  • clarity and significance of the research problem;
  • engagement with relevant scholarship;
  • originality and scholarly contribution;
  • methodological rigor;
  • quality of analysis and interpretation; and
  • consistency between evidence and conclusions.

Editorial decisions may include Accept Submission, Minor Revision, Major Revision, Resubmit for Review, or Decline Submission. The final publication decision rests with the Editor-in-Chief and/or the responsible editor.

Initial Editorial Screening

Every submission is evaluated before external review according to three principal criteria:

Relevance — the manuscript demonstrates a substantive connection to Madrasah Studies, Pesantren Studies, or Islamic Curriculum, Pedagogy, and Learning.

Rigor — the manuscript demonstrates an adequate scholarly foundation, appropriate methodology, systematic analysis, credible evidence, and acceptable academic writing.

Contribution — the manuscript offers an identifiable scholarly contribution and moves beyond merely descriptive reporting of educational practices.

Manuscripts may be declined without external peer review when they fall outside the journal's scope, lack sufficient originality or scholarly contribution, demonstrate fundamental methodological weaknesses, or fail substantially to meet the journal's requirements.

Confidentiality

Editors and reviewers must treat submitted manuscripts and associated materials as confidential. Information obtained through the peer-review process must not be disclosed, shared, or used for personal, professional, or research advantage.
