Plagiarism Screening
Muttashil: Journal of Hadith Studies is committed to ensuring that every author adheres to international standards in maintaining academic integrity, particularly with regard to plagiarism. Authors are required to clearly cite references when using specific information from other works, such as names, dates, locations, statistical data, or other detailed information. In addition, if authors directly quote words from other people's works, the quotations must be accompanied by proper citations and quotation marks, even if the authors then develop or elaborate on the ideas further.
Definition and General Overview
Plagiarism is the act of copying or using someone else's work without giving proper credit, or claiming authorship of ideas, writings, or research results that actually originate from another party.
Plagiarism is considered to have occurred when a significant portion of the content is copied directly from another source without clear and proper attribution. Manuscripts in this condition will not be processed for publication in Muttashil. Each article submitted must be an original work, previously unpublished, and not currently submitted or under consideration for publication in another journal. Any material taken word for word from another source must be clearly identified as distinct from the current original text by (1) indentation, (2) the use of quotation marks, and (3) identification of the source.
Texts that exceed fair use limits (more than two or three sentences) or graphic material taken from other sources require permission from the copyright holder, if possible from the original author, as well as identification of the source; for example, previous publications.
All submitted manuscripts will be checked for similarity using Turnitin. If indications of plagiarism are found, the Editor-in-Chief will review the manuscript and determine the appropriate action based on the level of plagiarism detected. The levels are as follows:
Similarity Level
Muttashil practices zero-tolerance towards plagiarism . We use iThenticate to assess the similarity level. Editors determine whether there are indications of plagiarism based on the report (the similarity report will be provided to the author). Policies applied:
1. Similarity Index above 40%: Article rejected without resubmission.
2. Similarity Index (20-40%): Manuscript returned to author for revision with proper citations and better paraphrasing.
3. Similarity Index below 20%: Accepted but citation improvements may be required.
In cases 2 and 3: The author must revise the manuscript by adding the necessary citations and improving the paraphrasing. The manuscript is then resubmitted with a Turnitin report showing NO PLAGIARISM and a similarity index below 20%.
Additional Information
Authors are solely responsible for the content of their manuscripts, having declared the originality of their work and agreed to the plagiarism policy prior to submission. If the same author commits serious plagiarism again, the editorial board may impose sanctions, including a ban on future submissions. This policy also applies to the reuse of material by the same author. Previously published text or images must be clearly marked and referenced.
Authors must identify the source of previously published material and obtain permission from the original author and publisher. If the submitted manuscript overlaps significantly with an article that is being or has been submitted to another journal, the editor of the other journal will be notified and the case will be treated as a case of severe plagiarism. Significant overlap includes the use of identical or nearly identical images or text for half or more of the manuscript. For self-plagiarism of less than half of the article but more than one-tenth of the article, it will be treated as moderate plagiarism. If self-plagiarism is limited to the methods section, the case will be considered minor plagiarism.
If the author uses some previously published material to explain new research results, the source of the material must be cited and the differences from the current publication must be explained. The author is also required to obtain permission from the copyright holder to republish it. If the manuscript has been previously published in conference proceedings and is then submitted to a journal, either in the same form or expanded, the author must include the name of the proceedings, the date of publication, and obtain permission for republication. The editor has the right to decide not to accept the manuscript. However, material from unpublished presentations, including visual displays, may still be used in subsequent journal publications. If the manuscript has been previously published in another language, the author must include the title, date, and original publication journal and obtain copyright permission.
Muttashil highly values academic integrity, and editors reserve the right to retract acceptance of manuscripts found to violate any of these standards. For further information, feel free to contact the Editorial Team at muttashiljournal@gmail.com.
